Watercolour portrait of two dogs

Commissions

Portraits

I thoroughly enjoy the process of creating pet portraits, whether they be of a cat, dog, hamster, cow or alpaca. I look forward to working with you on a commissioned portrait to create something special for you or your loved one.

Generally I only produce head and shoulder images, not full body, but I will consider full body images on an individual basis.

Time scales vary so please contact me for more information if you are interested in a personal commissioned piece. I spend many, many hours working on every design, particularly when trying to achieve the intricate detail in some of the realistic black ink drawings.

All original artworks are provided with a Certificate of Authenticity.

If you need something promptly for a special occasion, please do contact me with the date required and I will do my best to fit you in. I can often juggle other work and home commitments to accommodate urgent requests.

The Media

Colour or black and white, the choice is yours. Commissioned pieces are created with either black ink fineliners and ink or, if you prefer colour, a combination of black ink fineliners and watercolour or ink. The fineliners, inks and paint are professional archival quality and fade resistant to ensure a lasting product. Paper is professional quality and is made to last without fading or discolouring.

All pieces are hand drawn. I work from very clear and detailed photographs. Even the best behaved pet won’t sit still long enough for me to draw them!

Portraits are not mounted or framed.

The Process

The first step is to select some photographs, several if you can, and email them to me. We will then agree which photo is the best one to use. When you are happy to proceed, I will ask for a 30% deposit to secure your space. Payment is by bank transfer or Paypal if you prefer.

Once your portrait is complete, I will send you a copy via email for your approval.  Minor adjustments may be possible at this stage and when you are completely happy with the finished portrait, I will invoice you for the final balance, which should be paid within 7 days.  I will then post the portrait to you, securely wrapped, by courier using a tracked service.

The Photograph

To commission a portrait of your beloved pet, I will need at least one very clear, good quality photograph. Several images  would be helpful if you have them, but this is not essential. Taking a photograph of your pet is usually quite a challenge, unless you have a very well behaved animal of course. Anyway, here are some points to consider when taking your shot:
*Natural daylight is preferable. So, if you can, take your pet photograph outside.
*If you can’t take the photo outside, take several indoors. Try different rooms to see which light works best.
*You might need someone else to attract your pets attention so that they look at the camera. This is particularly important for a good head shot.

Simply email your image/s to me. I am more than happy to offer advice when you send the photographs to me and before you place an order.

If I don’t feel I can create a good likeness of your pet because the photograph is not clear enough, I will tell you straight away. I won’t accept commissions unless I truly believe you will be happy with the result.
